Practice Principal
Roger Evans is an architect, town planner and urban designer. He worked for ten years as an independent urban design consultant in the UK and abroad, and as a lecturer at the Joint Centre for Urban Design (JCUD) where he graduated. He founded the practice in 1992 with the aim of bringing together a dedicated and talented team who shared the vision of design-led planning with a social agenda. Roger Evans writes extensively for professional journals, is a trustee and past chairman on the Urban Design Group, has served on government panels on urban design and is an external examiner and visiting lecturer to several universities. |

Senior Associates
Robert West is an architect and urban designer and trained at Liverpool University. He worked in the UK and abroad for Shankland Cox with Roger Evans and also at Entec before joining REAL. He has led the concept development of many town centre and masterplanning projects for the practice, working at town, district and local scales, as well as leading conservation studies.

Karl Kropf studied landscape architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, followed by an MA at the JCUD and a PhD on urban morphology at the University of Birmingham. He worked for Shankland Cox, Skidmore Owings and Merrill’s San Francisco office and Stratford-on-Avon District Council before joining REAL. His publications include ‘Theories and Manifesteos of Contemporary Architecture’ which he co-edited with Charles Jencks. |
The team includes architects, town planners and landscape architects while our in-house graphics design unit prepare exhibitions, print and digital media.
The practice was one of the first in the UK to focus on urban design and its members have been prominent in the lobby to improve the quality of our towns and cities.
